HELPING HAITI

On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake rocked the city of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The tremor that rocked Haiti was like no other disaster that's ever hit the Western Hemisphere. An estimated 316,000 people were killed; more than a million have been left homeless; 2 million are in need of aid. In the wake of the rubble and devastation people are living in the streets, fighting for their survival and searching for some kind of hope.

In May of 2010, Brandon witnessed the devastation firsthand as he traveled to Haiti. After visiting an orphanage and encountering these young children who were left with nothing, God gave him a vision for Keystone Church. From his experience, he presented our church with the unique opportunity to adopt an orphanage and help children who couldn't help themselves. These young orphans were completely dependent on the generosity of others. Helping Haiti was launched to help increase the nutrition, sanitation, education and life transformation of the orphans in Haiti.

Through the Father's Day offerings from the past two years, the people of Keystone Church have demonstrated their abundant generosity by donating over $86,000 for the first Helping Haiti offering. This was overwhelming as our original goal was to raise $15,000 to adopt an orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. As a result of this abundance of generosity, we have been able to broaden our impact in Haiti beyond the original idea and adopt not just one orphanage, but two orphanages. Here are the highlights of what we are doing in Haiti:

  • Adopted two orphanages, one all boy's orphanage that houses 75+ boys, one all girl's orphanage that houses 60+ girls.
  • Providing highly nutritional meals to over 140 orphans each and every day.
  • In November of 2010, our Keystone student's and women's ministry provided our orphans with an early Christmas present of hygiene kits, art supplies, jump ropes, kick balls and soccer balls
  • This past Christmas through our Kicks for Kids Shoe Drive, Keystone donated over 300 pairs of shoes for our orphans.
  • We are part of a collection of churches that to date have adopted over 30 orphanages representing 1500+ children, supplying 40,000+ meals per month

This past Father's Day Keystone took Helping Haiti to a new level by not only providing healthy meals and snacks each day for the orphans in Haiti, but also by focusing on the their sleeping conditions by providing t new mattresses for the children. We have yet another great opportunity to teach and train the orphans the leadership principles from the Bible with our Elevate curriculum. With our special generous offering, we plan to raise up a generation that can impact a nation for Christ.

These are just the first steps of expanding our vision to lead everyone to experience a passionate life in Christ in Haiti. By providing nutrition and sanitation to these orphans, it has opened the doors for education and ultimately life transformation that comes through life in Christ. We believe that by investing in this next generation the country of Haiti can be changed from the inside out. Stay tuned for more updates on how we are working in the lives of our orphans and for additional opportunities for you to support Helping Haiti.

LOVE REVOLUTION IN HAITI

This past June a small group from Keystone Church enacted a LOVE REVOLUTION on the orphans in Haiti. During their time at both the girls and boys orphanage, they were able to engage and interact in a powerful and personal way. From painting toe nails and faces to playing soccer games and jump rope, it was a time full of activity and investing in the next generation of Haiti. Our Keystone team was able to witness first hand the impact that Keystone is having as we walked into rooms filled with new mattresses for the orphans and saw the faces of these children as we loved on them all week! God continues to use your generous giving to impact this next generation in Haiti for Jesus Christ.
